What will your family -- or your family business -- look like 100 years from today?
Building Family Affinity
“Rose” was the second wife of a very wealthy man who had recently died. Although Rose was to be well cared for during her lifetime, the estate included some provisions that required her to interact with her five step-children around certain family enterprises.
When Rose came to Sage360 Advisors she was worried that her step-children would only care about the money. Although their relationships had been quite good, time and distance had caused some detachment. Rose was afraid that the disposition of the estate would introduce deep divisions. Working with Sage360 Advisors, Rose developed a strategy to reclaim the common ground she had once shared with her step-children. She invited them — and their grown children — to a family meeting. At the meeting she presented each one with a specially-chosen “Treasure Box.” Inside the boxes Rose had placed her own recollections of a special time with each recipient. Needless to say, everyone was moved and an atmosphere of trust and mutual support was created so that Rose and her step-children could work together joyfully and productively on the family enterprises. |
